A heated exchange on Chicago's Southwest Side turned deadly when a woman was fatally shot in the Ashburn neighborhood Thursday night. The Chicago Police Department responded to a distress call around 11:45 p.m. and found a woman, believed to be in her 30s, with severe gunshot wounds to her head and neck at the 7700 block of South Cicero Avenue, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Witnesses at the scene described an argument between the victim and a man that escalated quickly. The man reportedly pulled a gun and fired at the woman, striking her, before fleeing. The victim, whose identity has yet to be released, was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to information obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Further details were provided by Fox 32 Chicago, stating that the altercation occurred on Thursday night in Scottsdale. Preliminary investigations suggest that after the argument, the male offender produced a handgun and proceeded to shoot the woman before making his escape.

The shooter remains at large, and no arrests have been made in connection to the incident. Area 1 detectives are actively investigating the case, asking anyone with information to come forward.
