
A tragic eruption of violence left a woman dead near a Southwest Atlanta McDonald's, sparking a homicide investigation on Wednesday. Atlanta Police reported that around 3 p.m. at 1166 Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard SW, an argument between two women spiraled into a deadly shooting. "The motive appears to be an escalating dispute between customers," Atlanta Police Lt. Germain Dearlove said to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The confrontation left a woman in her 30s mortally wounded by a younger woman, reported to be in her 20s. Details regarding whether the incident took place inside or outside the fast-food chain were not specified, but authorities confirmed that the suspect was apprehended by bystanders who detained her until the police arrived. The victim, later identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office as Tamanika Woods, was promptly transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
A friend of the deceased, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed her heartbreak in an interview with FOX 5. "My heart was definitely broken. I'm so saddened by this," she told the news outlet. "I never would’ve seen this happening," she mentioned, remembering Woods as a humble and sweet-spirited woman, cherished by many and leaving behind good times and memories.
Atlanta police detained a person of interest at a scene that was cordoned off with caution tape, as photos from Wednesday's crime scene outside the McDonald's depicted. Despite the detention, the police have yet to disclose if charges have been filed or what might have precipitated the shooting. Homicide investigators are continuing to probe into the circumstances leading up to the incident, according to a report by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
