A 17-year-old has been nabbed by the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit in connection with a two-month-old shooting in Tamarac that tragically ended the life of a young man, according to officials. On November 22, near the 7000 block of Northwest 79th Avenue, 21-year-old Mateo Delgado was found with a fatal gunshot wound inside a vehicle. WSVN reported that the victim was declared dead at the scene.
Law enforcement said the young man had been attacked inside his car when he tried to flee, leading to a crash into a nearby pole. Amassing clues over weeks, detectives executed a home search warrant in Margate, discovering the juvenile suspect, as Local 10 reported.
The suspect whose identity remains undisclosed due to his minor status, is now facing serious charges. Booked into the Juvenile Assessment Center, authorities have charged the 17-year-old with felony murder, an offense that carries the weight of the law and the heavy heart of irreversible consequences.
While friends and family reeled from the pain, a candlelight vigil was held for Delgado on Thanksgiving, bringing together those mourning his untimely departure. Deputies, caught in the midst of the investigation, have not provided additional details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
