The PGE Foundation, known for its philanthropic endeavors in Oregon, has officially passed the torch to a new leader. Angelica Espinosa takes the helm as the new board chair, marking a notable transition at the charitable institution affiliated with Portland General Electric. Her precedent, Peggy Fowler, steps down after an influential 26-year run on the board, having held the position of chair since 2020.

Espinosa, who also serves as PGE's Senior Vice President and Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, breaks new ground by becoming the foundation's first Latina chair. She is set confidently to continue the foundation's commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Oregon, with a special focus on education and workforce opportunities. "Peggy has been an extraordinary example of leadership, guiding the Foundation through unprecedented societal change with strength and grace," Espinosa stated in a news release obtained by the Portland Business Journal.

The shift in leadership also coincides with acknowledgment of Fowler's considerable contributions during her tenure. "Peggy, thank you for being a mentor, a friend, and a trailblazer for women leaders in our industry," PGE CEO Maria Pope expressed her gratitude in a LinkedIn post. Fowler's guidance has been pivotal in paving the way for future generations at PGE and within the wider community.

The philanthropic foundation has been actively supporting the community, distributing nearly $1.5 million in grants in 2022, mostly in educational support and fostering safe and stable families. Under Espinosa's guidance, the Foundation plans to further enhance its initiatives, aiming to improve upon already well-established educational programs, promote arts, and create sustainable career pathways. "As chair, I look forward to building on the Foundation’s legacy of working in partnership with the community to expand educational and workforce opportunities for Oregon’s youth," Espinosa expressed in a statement made available by the PGE Foundation.

In addition to Espinosa's appointment, the board is diversifying its ranks with two new members, Serena Stoudamire Wesley and Ian Preddy, both of whom are anticipated quickly to add their respective skills and perspectives to the foundation's mission. Their backgrounds in community engagement, global leadership, and strong commitments to equity and diversity shall undoubtedly align with the foundation's strategic vision for the coming years.
