Atlanta fire crews have been kept busy with blazes destroying two properties owned by Atlanta Beltline Inc. in separate incidents, one at a vacant home in southeast Atlanta and another at a large warehouse in the southwest part of the city. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, flames engulfed the southeast Atlanta property on Orchard Lane SE just after midnight earlier today. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported since the building was empty at the time.
Barely two hours later, firefighters had to quickly jump into action at a warehouse located on Murphy and Avon Avenues. The warehouse, spanning over nine acres, is also owned by Atlanta Beltline and was unoccupied during the time of the fire. Firefighters had to work for several hours to bring the inferno under control, eventually deeming it safe for crews to carefully enter and to begin the investigation process.
No injuries were reported in either fire, marking a fortunate escape for Atlanta residents and emergency services. The cause of the fires at both locations remain under investigation with authorities providing no immediate indication of foul play or accidents as the source.
"Our team is currently on site at the scene of a fire at property owned by Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. at 1150 Murphy Avenue, referred to as the Avon property," stated the Atlanta Beltline in a press release given to 11Alive. They continued to report, "The property only contained unoccupied buildings. The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department confirmed with our team that the fire was extinguished and that there were no injuries to sworn or civilian personnel." Both Atlanta Beltline and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department are pooling their efforts to both determine the cause of the fires and asses the extent of the damages.
As the community waits for answers, Atlanta Beltline officials reassure the public that they will maintain close communication with emergency service departments while the investigations unfold. With the recent rise in structure fires, the city's vigilance towards fire safety has now become more paramount than ever.
