Atlanta's Ponce City Market Announces 500,000 Square Foot Expansion Boosting Retail and Residential SpacesSource: Google Street View

Ponce City Market, the trendy mixed-use development hub in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward is swelling its square footage, with a 500,000 square foot extension that'll bring new residential spaces, offices, and retail opportunities to the historical site. Confirmed through 11Alive, the expansion includes plans for an outdoor courtyard, and increases in shopping and dining areas, aiming to "add more space for the community to work, eat, shop, and enjoy," according to Jamestown CEO Matt Bronfman. The site, which served a myriad of purposes from a Sears warehouse to Atlanta's City Hall East, has been a beacon of urban renewal since its opening in 2013.

Not merely content with broadening the whole complex, Ponce City Market is also ramping up individual businesses, with The Forum Athletic Club poised to double in size. Details shared by Atlanta Business Chronicle underline the gym's move into previously unused storage space, increasing its footprint by 10,300 square feet. Amid this growth, a newly minted office building and further renovations remain on Jamestown's to-do list, reaffirming the property's status as a cornerstone of the commercial and social life along the Atlanta BeltLine.

As the footprint of Ponce City Market expands, Councilor Amir Farokhi expressed his enthusiasm about the project's influence on local urbanism. "Ponce City Market has been a transformational, historic redevelopment for the neighborhood, city, and region," Farokhi told 11Alive. The development aims to not just meet the growth demands but also to uplift the region's urban environment artistically and sustainably.

Fitness centers are central to this grand strategy, with entities like The Forum's expansion seen as crucial in driving the foot traffic that mixed-use spaces thrive on. Tacking on a new free-weight room and improved locker facilities, The Forum is leveraging this opportunity to enhance their services while construction continues through the bustling summer months, with Jamestown anticipating a late summer completion for the upgrades.
