The Bay Area is set to see a mix of foggy mornings and consistent rain through the weekend, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service San Francisco and detailed weather predictions. As reported by the NWS, the region faced locally foggy conditions early this Tuesday morning, giving way to light rain that will continue into Wednesday.
Despite a foggy start with “patchy and mainly confined to the North Bay valleys,” conditions are expected to clear up, which is welcomed news for those hitting the roads during morning commutes. NWS meteorologists have noted an "increase in surface winds" that has helped to lift the fog, consequently decreasing the likelihood of additional dense fog development.
Traveling further into the week, the weather is anticipated to be drier until Friday when another bout of inclement weather is expected to hit over the weekend. Forecasts suggest that the most significant rainfall will occur on Sunday as a low-pressure system driven by the polar/subtropical jet stream moves through the region.
In the NWS's 7 Day Forecast for San Francisco, today’s weather will see a high near 57 degrees with light rain starting after 5 pm. The service also predicts a 100% chance of rain tonight with new precipitation amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible. Wednesday is expected to clear up partly sunny, with a high near 59, followed by the potential of patchy fog after 5 am the following day.
The weekend’s outlook isn’t looking much drier, with forecasts indicating consistent rain through Monday and possible showers and thunderstorms Friday night. Mariners are also advised to heed weather forecasts, with a Small Craft Advisory issued for coastal waters as strong southerly winds and rough seas are anticipated starting Friday. These coastal conditions could lead to challenging times at sea for those out on the water.
