The Windy City is gearing up for a mixed bag of precipitation today, with a light drizzle and a slight chance of rain that could interrupt the usual hustle of Chicagoans. According to the National Weather Service, clouds will hover over the city with the mercury struggling to climb past a high of 39 degrees.
Commuters should brace for intermittent drizzle that might turn into snow before the evening wraps up, as temperatures take a slight dip to around 32 degrees. The North northwest wind won't do favors either, coming in at 5 to 10 mph, and gusts that could hit up to 20 mph, the National Weather Service reported.
Local waterways are feeling the impact of the weather, with the National Weather Service issuing a warning about localized river flooding along parts of the Iroquois, Illinois, and Kankakee Rivers which is expected to persist. However, the rest of the week is predicted to be dryer and bring some mildness to the region, according to their advisories.
As Chicagoans make plans for the weekend, they can expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, and highs lingering around the mid-40s. Come Sunday, those with maritime interests should note, hazardous conditions for small crafts are likely according to the National Weather Service's outlook for Lake Michigan's nearshore areas. This heads up is a useful tidbit for anyone considering braving the waves, as posted by NWS Chicago on X.
Periods of drizzle and light rain, perhaps even a few snowflakes mixing in at times, are expected through this afternoon. Otherwise, dry and unseasonably mild conditions are expected for the rest of the week. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/a6plU2Zlo4
