Fear grips Grand Crossing as a series of armed robberies have rattled residents, prompting Chicago Police to issue a community alert. Perpetrators, identified as 2-3 African American males aged 16-20, have been terrorizing the neighborhood, demanding property at gunpoint, and taking drastic measures including abducting a victim in a van only to rob them in a secluded alley.
According to the Chicago Police Department's report, the crimes occurred during January, with multiple incidents happening in the ominous pre-dawn hours on South Constance Ave. Notably, a chilling abduction took place on January 7th followed by two additional robberies on January 11th, one at the eerily similar time of 3:45 a.m. and another at 9:30 p.m.
Authorities haven't provided a detailed description of the van used in these crimes, but they stress that firepower was involved with assailants displaying handguns to their victims. Chicago Police are urging the community to exercise heightened vigilance, report any suspicious activity immediately, and remember identifying marks or characteristics of any potential perpetrators.
They're also pushing for witnesses to come forward with their contact information which could be vital for the investigation. In the event of an incident, the public is reminded to dial 9-1-1 without delay and if possible, remain at the scene awaiting police arrival.
