A deadly shooting broke out Sunday night in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood, leaving one man dead and another wounded, authorities reported. Chicago Police were called to a residence on the 9400 block of South Vernon Avenue at about 8:45 p.m. and discovered a 28-year-old man dead with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, according to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times.
At the scene, responding officers found the victim unresponsive, lying inside the bedroom on the floor. Meanwhile, a second victim, a 26-year-old man, later appeared at the University of Chicago Medical Center, having been shot in the abdomen. Police said he was in good condition and escaped from the home, where he reported being shot by an acquaintance.
The violence in Roseland, a neighborhood grappling with its own history of gun-related incidents, underscores an all-too-familiar narrative in gun-stricken regions of urban America. As detectives continue their investigation, no arrests have been made, and two handguns were located at the scene.
The second victim's account led police to believe both men were inside the same residence during the incident. The 26-year-old man's injuries, received while in the company of the deceased, suggest a targeted attack, even though no suspects have been apprehended to this point. The investigation falls under the purview of Area 2 detectives, according to information provided by WGN-TV.
