A Chicago City shopper just scored half a million bucks with a lucky Powerball ticket, per the Illinois Lottery. Sold at a Jewel Osco on Chicago's South Side, the ticket put a cool $500,000 in some lucky gambler's pocket after Wednesday's drawing.
The ticket, which made someone's day a lot richer, was purchased at the grocery store located at 443 E. 35th St. in the Lake Meadows Shopping Center, NBC Chicago reported. The winning numbers for the draw were 30-31-38-48-68, plus the Powerball number, 8, while the next jackpot skyrockets to an estimated $35 million.
While it's no $842 million Michigan monster ticket, the $500,000 prize is nothing to sneeze at. The ticket beat the odds by matching four numbers with the Powerball and by opting for the 'Power Play' feature, as CBS Chicago reported.
And it's not just the winner feeling lucky. The Jewel store itself is counting a bit of green, scoring a $5,000 seller's bonus, just one percent of the prize, but certainly a nice perk for trading in dreams. Officials are nudging the mystery winner to sign their ticket and stash it somewhere safe, with a whole year to claim the prize before it turns back into a pumpkin.
