Chelsea's veteran community is slated to receive an upgrade in leadership along with their new digs, as Christine Baldini steps up as Superintendent of the Chelsea Veterans Home. The Executive Office of Veterans Services confirmed the appointment yesterday, citing her quarter-century of experience in senior living care in the Greater Boston region. Baldini, known for her commitment to high-quality care, assumes the role with the backing of Secretary Jon Santiago, who praised her qualifications and dedication.
After leading the team during a crucial transition, Robert Engell will now hand over the reins to Baldini. Engell spearheaded several key achievements, including licensure and certification milestones for the institution before previously expected timelines, initially projected for 2025. "My goal is to continue the legacy of exceptional care and support for our veterans, building on the foundation of excellence established by the Executive Office of Veterans Services," Baldini told the Massachusetts government's official website.
The newly minted Veterans Home in Chelsea, poised to be a beacon of advanced, energy-efficient living with 154 private rooms, awaits its full contingent of residents. Not resting on laurels, the facility has already housed its first 20 residents, circumventing delays and signaling a swift transition for the remaining veterans by February 2024. The home, now CMS certified and DPH licensed, provides skilled nursing services and has sailed through the VA Recognition Survey, ensuring federal reimbursement and a heightened level of care for our nation's heroes.
"This remarkable achievement is a testament to our dedicated team's commitment to providing exceptional care and support to our veterans at Chelsea," said Acting Superintendent of Homes and Operations at the Executive Office of Veterans Services, Robert Engell, heralding the timely progress. Tommy Lyons, Chair of the Board of Trustees, echoed this sentiment, recognizing Baldini as a valuable addition to the Chelsea Veterans Home family for her continuing dedication to quality care.
Baldini brings to the table an impressive track record, previously overseeing a 228-bed retirement community with a high-performing team of 200 staff members at Erickson Senior Living's Brooksby Village. Her leadership was characterized by consistent top rankings, including a 5-star CMS rating, and being named a Best Nursing Home by U.S. News & World Report for five years running. With a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from New Hampshire College, she is poised to cultivate the same level of excellence at Chelsea that has colored her esteemed career.
