Time's ticking for Chick-fil-A customers looking to cash in on a class action settlement, with a reported $4.4 million on the line for those who utilized the chain's delivery services between 2019 and 2021. Fox 5 Atlanta has the scoop on the company's payout, which follows accusations that the fast-food giant hiked prices on its delivery app.
In the heart of the lawsuit, Chick-fil-A was called out for advertising delivery at low costs while allegedly marking up menu prices by as much as 25 to 30 percent - a significant increase for customers ordering the same amount of grub over their phones as those walking into the restaurant, according to details from USA Today. This means if you purchased 30 nuggets for delivery, you could be out an extra $5 to $6 compared to in-store prices, and that's leaving many with a bad taste in their mouths, especially those who thought they were scoring a deal during the pandemic lockdowns.
The lawsuit, which saw its day in a Georgia court last October, covers residents from a handful of states, including New Jersey, California, Florida, Georgia, and New York - if they used Chick-fil-A's One App or website for orders placed between November 1, 2019, and April 30, 2021. The settlement includes a $1.45 million cash fund and a $2.95 million gift card fund, while eligible customers have the option between up to $29.95 in cash or a gift card with a balance of up to same amount.
"Chick-fil-A did not admit guilt, but agreed to provide email addresses to the settlement administrator to inform those who might be eligible for a refund," details from Fox 5 Atlanta state, shedding light on the corporation's resolution without conceding to the allegations, and as February 15 looms closer, customers wishing to file a claim are facing down a deadline that could mean missing out on potential compensation.
For residents caught up in this fast-food fiasco, determining eligibility is as simple as checking for an official email notice and then visiting the settlement's website to enter the provided unique ID, or by mailing in their claim the old-fashioned way, those interested should do so sooner than later—the cutoff to join the settlement claimants is February 15.
