Chaos ensued in the early hours of Wednesday in Portland when a Domino's Pizza delivery driver faced down two carjacking suspects with nothing more than a thrown pizza, authorities report. The driver was making a delivery on Waverly Avenue when, around 1 a.m., two men clad in masks and dark attire made their move for his car, says FOX 61.
As one suspect leaped into the driver's seat, the other hurried to the passenger side launching themselves into the car and attempting to make off with it, but a timely contribution from Mother Nature left the vehicle immobilized on the icy road surface, the incident took an even more bizarre turn when the frustrated driver pelted the attempted thieves with a pizza according to NBC Connecticut.
The delivery driver, undeterred by the carjacking attempt, gave chase as the suspects fled on foot to a second stolen vehicle and sped off toward the Arrigoni Bridge, heading into Middletown. What followed was a harrowing pursuit with the suspects firing at least two shots at the pursuing delivery driver while escaping onto Fairview Street as per WFSB.
Eventually reaching New Haven, the drama peaked when police intercepted the suspects’ stolen getaway vehicle, at which time four individuals exited the car and managed to elude officers, despite a K9 unit being deployed in an attempt for apprehension, the suspects remained at large and the road-born odyssey concluded with the discovery of a 16-year-old from Meriden who had been reported missing, and thankfully reunited with his mother the finding was not clearly linked to the earlier crimes being investigated in this whirlwind of night-time activity.
The law enforcement's search continues for the masked suspects, and with an open investigation on hand, police are piecing together the ties between the second stolen vehicle, out of Hamden, and the attempted carjacking, as reports NBC Connecticut and WFSB. The public remains on alert as authorities work to track down those responsible for the brazen attempt at vehicular theft and subsequent endangerment of a local delivery driver who faced the perils of his job with unexpected resolve.
