A Porsche driver was taken into police custody after striking a Florida Highway Patrol trooper's vehicle and then evading the scene on foot, causing a manhunt in Weston, authorities said yesterday. According to NBC Miami, the incident unfolded on Interstate 75 near Indian Trace when the trooper was hit from behind.
The aftermath of the accident showed the trooper's cruiser with significant rear-end damage and the black Porsche with a "heavily damaged" right side, officials said. Fleeing the wrecked vehicle, the driver prompted a search by multiple agencies, eventually leading to a perimeter being established around Weston, as NBC Miami reported. This operation was responsible for notable traffic delays on I-75 and adjacent roads.
Ricardo Jimenez, 49, was identified as the suspect and was apprehended a short time later. As described by WFLX, he was taken to Cleveland Clinic for medical evaluation following his capture. Reports indicate that once released from medical care, Jimenez will be transported to the Broward County Jail.
The FHP trooper involved in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Photos released by FHP highlighted the extent of the damages to both the trooper’s vehicle and the Porsche, evidencing the violence of the impact.
