An Elgin man, aged 23, was slapped with eight counts of first-degree murder and an extra 19 counts of aggravated battery, leveled against him for the death of his infant son back in March 2021. The suspect, Malik M. Davis, stands accused of inflicting fatal blunt-force injuries on the boy, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
In a separate streak of alleged violence, Davis is indicted for injuring a baby girl known to him between November 2020 and January 2021, which resulted in nine counts of aggravated battery. Details on the circumstances surrounding the injuries were kept close to the vest by authorities. After the indictment ceremony took place, Davis was snatched up on an arrest warrant in Pettis County, Missouri, last week and skipped an extradition hearing, waving it by.
The Kane County jail now hosts Davis following his transfer on Wednesday, as stated by the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. Looking ahead, Friday is marked for Davis' next date with justice, when his detention hearing is expected to unfold.
While the grim narrative of the incidents in question remains largely under wraps, with officials still holding out on the finer points, the charges speak with an ominous tenor of their own. He killed his infant son on March 8, 2021, by causing blunt force head trauma, which was lethal, as the jury alleges," per the reports. Unfolding events shall see Davis appear in court today, Jan. 5, for said detention hearing.
