
Two men have fatally shot each other during a heated exchange inside an elevator in Miami Gardens, officials say. The Miami Gardens Police Department responded to the deadly incident on Friday around 2:10 p.m. at the Miami Office Center building, located at 18350 NW Second Ave., which houses office spaces and a Bank of America branch. NBC Miami reports that the confrontation escalated as the elevator reached the fifth floor, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the two men.
Authorities later identified the deceased as 28-year-old Darien Joseph Ahwee, labeled the victim, and 20-year-old Jason Jackson Marcellus, referred as the subject. As per statements from the police, the two were critically injured and subsequently airlifted to Aventura Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. Local 10 News indicated that despite the violent encounter, police reassured that there was no continuing threat to the community.
The motive behind the shootout remains a mystery to law enforcement, as detectives continue to piece together the events that led up to the fatal exchange.
