
Chaos erupted late Wednesday night when a fire truck was stolen from Atlanta firefighters as they battled a blaze, authorities said. The daring theft occurred around 11:30 pm at 809 Cameron Alexander, where Atlanta Fire Rescue (AFR) personnel were busy dousing flames. According to a statement from the Atlanta Police Department, a lookout was promptly issued city-wide after a bystander informed the crew that their battalion truck had vanished into the night.
The missing emergency vehicle was tracked down and found abandoned on 267 Harriston St., where no suspects were found despite a thorough sweep by K-9 units. "Crime Scene units processed the recovered vehicle. It appears no items were taken from inside the vehicle at this time," Atlanta PD reported. The fire truck was later returned to the AFR Battalion Chief, after, having been examined for potential clues.
As of yet, there are no leads on the bold perpetrator who managed to flee the scene undetected. Officers have been engaging with witnesses in hopes of sketching a suspect's description. This brazen act against public safety resources has prompted an ongoing scrutiny by law enforcement, with an active search for the individual or individuals responsible.
