A Dunkin' customer in Florida found himself in a messy and injurious situation after a toilet unexpectedly exploded, prompting him to file a negligence lawsuit against the global coffee chain. The incident, which took place at a Dunkin' location in Winter Park, Florida, has led Paul Kerouac to seek damages exceeding $100,000, as per court documents filed in Orlando.
Details from the lawsuit reveal how Kerouac had to emerge covered in waste after the toilet he used became a fount of human feces, urine, and debris. He had to immediately search out help from the store's personnel. An employee, in a statement obtained by CBS News Miami, admitted that they were previously aware of the "problem with the toilet," citing past incidents of a similar nature.
Kerouac's lawsuit, as cited by NBC News, claims he has suffered "severe and long term injuries" due to the explosion that occurred in January 2022. The exact nature of the injuries was not specified in the reports. The Canton, Massachusetts-based Dunkin' company was reached out to for comment, but there has been no immediate response from their end.
Compounding Kerouac's physical hardships, he reportedly requires mental health care and counseling to recover from the trauma inflicted by the restroom malfunction. Scott Spradley, Kerouac's attorney, was quoted saying he was tied up and could not provide further details on the injuries until the next day. These ongoing repercussions highlight the continuing struggles Kerouac has to endure well over a year after the harrowing experience.
