In San Diego, a supposed joyride took an unexpected turn when a stolen vehicle equipped with GPS became the beacon for law enforcement, leading to the swift arrest of a juvenile trio allegedly involved in firearm offenses. According to a Facebook post by the San Diego Police Department, the incident resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm, a ghost gun, and two juveniles taken to juvenile hall.
The fleet-footed joyriders attempted to evade police upon their arrival but ended up dropping handguns in a desperate attempt to escape. The Airborne Law Enforcement (ABLE) team was monumental in halting their flight. The San Diego Police Department's post stated, "Upon our arrival, the trio made a run for it, dropping handguns like they were hot potatoes." In the end, their attempt at a getaway was foiled.
The three individuals involved faced serious charges related to the guns found at the scene. San Diego Police has confirmed that two of the juveniles have been detained for "a variety of firearm charges" with one of them also detained for "an outstanding felony juvenile detention order." An adult was involved in the escapade and has been booked into the county jail on firearm charges.
The department took to social media to underscore the gravity of the situation and the seriousness with which they treat such incidents, summarizing, "Moral of the story? Joyrides and firearms are a no-go. We're here to put a brake on such plans and keep our streets safe."
