A Haralson County traffic stop took a bizarre turn when authorities pulled over a hoodless, tagless Ford Mustang only to uncover a crossbow in the front seat and a stash of methamphetamine on the driver. According to Atlanta News First, the Haralson County Sheriff's Office detained 42-year-old Michael Shane Hulvey on multiple drug and traffic charges after the unusual discovery on Tuesday.
Deputies became suspicious upon spotting the damaged black Mustang on Rockmart Road. During their investigation, deputies found, not only the crossbow but also loose ammunition scattered on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The situation escalated when Hulvey attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended.
Following his capture, officials found Hulvey in possession of 42.5 grams of what is suspected to be methamphetamine. A subsequent search of his vehicle led to the recovery of an additional 19.5 grams of the substance, concealed within a magnetic box.
In details obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, during the traffic stop, Sgt. Benson and Sgt. Kirkland from the Haralson County Sheriff's Office's Crime Suppression Unit ordered Hulvey out of the car and, upon patting him down, a brief scuffle ensued. Hulvey reportedly tried to reach into his pocket during the altercation before being handcuffed by the officers.
The charges levied against Hulvey include trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, and two counts related to the traffic violations. The Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force has since executed a search warrant at Hulvey’s residence, which led to the additional meth discovery. The sheriff’s office has not commented further on the motives behind Hulvey’s possession of the crossbow and drugs.
