A routine traffic stop on January 8 turned into a significant bust when Harris County deputies pulled over a man who turned out to be a wanted felon, concealing both his identity and a loaded firearm, officials said. The stop took place in the 1700 block of N Sam Houston PKWY W, where the driver attempted to deceive law enforcement by providing a fake name and birthdate.

Despite the suspect's efforts to mask his identity, deputies unmasked him as James Patrick Gwinn; Gwinn, who was wanted on a felony warrant for assaulting a police officer and was also out on bond for possessing a controlled substance, according to a Facebook post by Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman's Office. A further search of his vehicle by the deputies yielded a loaded firearm and an ankle monitor, the latter indicating his attempts to break free from the constraints of the law.

"James Gwinn was arrested and booked in Harris County Jail, charged with Unlawful Carry of a Weapon, Tampering with a Monitoring Device, Failure to Identify - fugitive and his open warrant. His bond and court information have no been set at this time." Constable Mark Herman conveyed through the Facebook announcement.

As Gwinn faces these new charges, information regarding his bond and court dates remains undisclosed.
