Braving bone-chilling temperatures, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Dive Team plunged into the icy Mississippi River for winter river dive training last week. Despite the mercury dipping to minus 4 degrees, these dedicated divers didn't balk at the challenge under the 10th Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis.
The Dive Team, accustomed to training in harsh conditions, found themselves "lucky" as the weather slightly warmed to a less frigid 11 degrees by the session's end. This rigorous training ensures their readiness to swiftly and effectively respond to search and rescue emergencies, no matter the season.

According to an update posted by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the divers are equipped to handle subzero temperatures and maintain operational capabilities throughout the year. "Going for a dip during last week's subzero temps probably didn't cross your mind but our Dive Team suited up and entered the icy waters of the Mississippi River!" the post read.
While most residents were likely nestled indoors, seeking solace from the bitter cold, these divers were submerging themselves in the frigid waters to ensure they're ready to act quickly when called upon. This dedication is part of what enables them to "to quickly and efficiently respond to emergency search & rescue operations throughout the state,"
