The unsolved slaying of Liz Barraza in Tomball, Houston, is drawing renewed attention as the fifth anniversary of the tragedy nears with a significant reward offered for information. Barraza was fatally shot on January 25, 2019, just moments after her husband, Sergio, had left for work. The 29-year-old was preparing for a garage sale at her home at 8623 Cedarwalk Drive in Tomball when she was gunned down outside her residence at 8623 Cedarwalk Drive. A vehicle of interest, a black Nissan Frontier truck, was caught on video in the neighborhood at the time of the murder, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
Authorities have yet to make an arrest, but a recent surge of public interest has been sparked following new evidence and a constable's dashcam video released on YouTube. The video is believed to shed light on the case, which is being worked on by a new Harris County Sheriff's detective, the FBI, and the Texas Rangers. "We've heard that there's new evidence," Liz's mother, Rosemary Nuelle, told FOX 26 Houston. Liz's father, Robert Nuelle Jr., said, "If they're willing to drive up in the dark hours of the morning in January and slaughter my beautiful daughter they're willing to kill anybody."
The recently surfaced patrol car footage provides a raw glimpse into the immediate aftermath of the crime, further compelling the community and authorities to seek justice for the baffling crime. In the video, a distraught Sergio can be seen reacting to the news of his wife’s shooting. "Oh my God, dude. This is crazy," Sergio said in footage corroborated by ABC13. He then asks, "So they just (expletive) shot her and left?" The emotionally charged video is not a part of the official investigation material but was posted on a YouTube channel not affiliated with law enforcement.
Despite the lack of concrete advances, the memory of Liz, a fan of Star Wars and Harry Potter and a member of a charitable organization, remains at the forefront of community consciousness. Her husband, now remarried, still holds onto the hope that the perpetrator will be apprehended. "It's so cruel and evil, what they did to Liz," Sergio told ABC13. A $50,000 reward has been put forward by Crime Stoppers to anyone who offers information that could lead to an arrest, a critical incentive for potential witnesses to come forward and assist law enforcement in solving this case.
