A Houston woman's charges have been escalated following the death of her brother, whom she shot at an address on Tambourine Drive earlier this month. The 30-year-old suspect, Yaquelin Artiga-Rosales, who was originally charged with aggravated assault of a family member, now faces a murder charge, authorities announced Thursday.
The shooting occurred just before dawn on Tuesday, January 2, at the 12114 Tambourine Drive residence. The victim, a 26-year-old man, was critically injured and rushed to an area hospital. According to the Houston Police Department's Major Assaults & Family Violence Division, Artiga-Rosales confessed to the shooting, dialing 9-1-1 herself and awaiting police response at the scene. Following a brief detention, she was taken into custody, according to a news release by the City of Houston.
Despite medical efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, January 10. With the victim's demise, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was briefed, resulting in upgraded charges for Yaquelin Artiga-Rosales, who remains held at the Harris County Jail.
The recovered weapon—believed to be used in the fatal shooting—was secured by officers at the crime scene, Detective M. Deleon of the HPD reported. The details of the events leading up to the critical and ultimately fatal confrontation have yet to be disclosed by the authorities as the investigation proceeds.
