In a move that marks a changing tide for the Port of San Diego, Joe Stuyvesant has stepped down as President and Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Port Commissioners announced. Appointed in February 2021, Stuyvesant's tenure came to an official end on January 21. Acting President/CEO Randa Coniglio will continue leading the port into its next chapter.

During his time at the helm, Stuyvesant was at the forefront of a settlement with SDG&E, ushering in a new era of electrification for the port and paving the way to decreased diesel reliance, aiming to enhance air quality in the surrounding region. According to a statement obtained by the Port of San Diego website, he was also involved in an innovative endeavor, monetizing and maximizing Low Carbon Fuel Credits for Navy ships, generating additional revenue streams.

"We thank Joe Stuyvesant for his service to the Port of San Diego. We wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Frank Urtasun, the Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners, signaling not only a note of gratitude but heralding the transition toward new leadership and direction for the Port.

In his parting words, Stuyvesant expressed a heartfelt farewell, "It is with gratitude to the Board of Port Commissioners that I close the chapter on my leadership at the Port of San Diego." Inadvertently, leaving behind a professional staff of dedicated public servants, Stuyvesant highlighted his tenure, conveying a sense of accomplishment for what they achieved together under the Board's guidance. He added, “While I will miss being part of the Port team, new opportunities have recently presented themselves, and I am excited to pursue them,” indicating a new voyage on the horizon for the former leader.
