The Key West High School marching band, or the 'Marching Conchs', have made their triumphant return to South Florida after performing in the New Year's Day Parade in London. Touching down at Miami International Airport late Thursday night, the high school performers were greeted with cheers after their show-stopping appearance across the pond.

The group, a blend of the island's own spirited talents, were said to quickly stop at a Publix in Key Largo before making it back to Key West. They reportedly raised over $400,000 in order to make their way to the UK, an effort that involved car washes and yard sales among other community-driven fundraisers. "They have worked so hard doing multiple car washes, yard sales, just out on the streets making it all happen for themselves," Jamie Struck, the mother of band captain Eddie Strunk, expressed to Local 10 News.

The 'Marching Conchs' were featured performing hits from The Beatles, Elton John, and Blondie along the two-mile route of the parade — an experience watched by hundreds of thousands live and millions more globally on television. "It was really great experience it was the last parade that as a senior I'll ever get to be a part of it was very emotional, I started crying near the end of it just it was a great experience, I was happy to have it," band member Parker Curry reflected, in a statement obtained by WSVN.

Following their significant achievement, the Key West High School band is also now asking for the public's help to ensure the show can go on. Efforts to sustain their general KWHS Band Program Fund, which supports their entire band program throughout the school year, are underway. KWHS Band Director Gary Hernandez told Local 10 News that performing on such a massive world stage was a unique opportunity, especially for a diverse group hailing from Key West, Florida.

The 'Marching Conchs' have clearly etched their mark in their local community and around the world with this performance. Their return marked not just the end of a trip, but the culmination of a journey filled with dedication, music, and undeniable school spirit.
