A 59-year-old man perished in a ferocious blaze that tore through a Paulding County home Saturday night, officials disclosed. The fire at 588 Florence Road was reported to Paulding County Fire and Rescue at 10:56 p.m., where a family was shattered by the tragedy that unfolded.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a landscape of fury, as flames engulfed the residence, thwarting their efforts to enter and carry out a rescue. A "distraught family member" relayed to emergency services that he feared his stepson had not escaped the consuming inferno, as FOX5 Atlanta reported. The victim, found with severe burns inside the charred remnants, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The aftermath called for an investigation into the inferno's origin, which, as per an initial probe, pointed to a mortally mundane yet lethal mishap—a kerosene space heater accidentally tipped over, triggering the rapid spread of the fire, as Atlanta News First noted.
