An 11-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man were wounded in a shooting in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood. The incident occurred on the South Side Thursday evening, shattering the routine bustle with the all-too-familiar sound of gunfire.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the older victim was on the sidewalk in the 200 block of West 95th Street around 6:30 p.m. when an armed individual approached and began shooting. The man sustained injuries to his arm and abdomen. At around the same time and one block over, the young boy, who was inside a home, was struck in the leg by stray bullets piercing through the walls of the residence.
The wounded man was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in critical condition. Meanwhile, the 11-year-old received medical attention at Comer Children's Hospital and was reported to be in good condition. The police have clarified that the minor was not the intended target of the shooting.
Confirming the connection between the two incidents, a report by CBS Chicago disclosed that Chicago police are treating the shootings as related events. Despite these findings, no arrests have been made as detectives continue with their investigation.
