A man has died in San Diego after being hit by a Coaster train, officials report, sparking an in-depth investigation into the fatal incident. The collision occurred near the intersection of Sassafras Street and Pacific Highway yesterday, just shy of the midday hour.
Upon their arrival, first responders discovered the individual who had suffered critical injuries from the impact. Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics, the man's injuries proved to be insurmountable, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
The Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit, responsible for investigating incidents along the North County Transit District routes, is leading the investigation at the request of the San Diego Police Department. The name of the deceased has yet to be disclosed, pending the efforts of the Medical Examiner's Office to not only positively identify him but also to ascertain the precise cause and manner of his untimely demise once his family has been notified.
