A harrowing scene unfolded near Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Sunday night, where one man was killed following a Miami Dolphins game. The shooting took place around midnight, just south of 199th Street near a Starbucks on Northwest 27th Avenue, according to WSVN.
Witnesses described chaos as gunshots rang out, residents and football fans scrambled to find safety. A nearby witness, who chose to remain unnamed, relayed the sheer incredulity of the situation, stating, “It’s just terrible honestly, at the end of the day, it’s just a sports game, and I don’t think it should end in violence like this, especially with a life taken.” Miami Gardens Police, confirming the fatality, noted that the deadly encounter began as a verbal altercation between the victim and an unknown subject in a vehicle, as per WSVN.
The victim, surrounded by friends, was walking through traffic when the argument escalated, leading the subject to fire multiple rounds. Miami Dade Fire Rescue responded to the emergency and pronounced the individual deceased after failed resuscitation efforts, as highlighted by CBS News Miami.
Jae Jackson, who happened to be near the incident, recounted his attempt to aid the victim. “I tried to talk to him. I was holding his hand. His girlfriend came over, I told him he was strong. At that moment, he lifted his arm up because it was cold, then maybe like 30 seconds later, his eyes rolled up and that was it. It was sad. You don’t give cowards guns,” Jackson said, per WSVN.
The search for the shooter continues as authorities work to gather more information. Anyone with knowledge relating to the crime is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. The organization assures anonymity for those who come forward, and a monetary reward of up to $5,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this tragic case.
