A brutal dog attack in Florida City has left a man in a wheelchair with severe arm injuries. The man was viciously assaulted by two dogs near Northwest 10th Street and Fifth Avenue yesterday afternoon and had to be rushed to the Jackson South’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment, as reported by Local 10 News.

The dogs were subsequently secured by Animal Control, with the owner of the animals reportedly behind bars for unrelated issues, and others tasked with their care, according to authorities. One of the animals, described as a pit bull by WSVN, has been taken away, though the fate of both dogs remains uncertain. Witnesses reacted in shock, with one resident, Bernard Mcintire, observing the aftermath and stating, "The dog was a runaway dog, the victim got bit around the corner when I came down here and seen all that was happening."

Neighbors expressed surprise at the attack, describing the involved canines as generally peaceful. One of the dogs, known as Boo Boo, had previously been described as very peaceful by a neighbor who had interacted with them multiple times. "That's Boo Boo," the neighbor said of one of the dogs during an interview obtained by Local 10 News. "Very peaceful. He got out the other day, and my mom was able to take him, give him food, and he went right back inside his kennel." However, she did note the capabilities of the other dog, Jumpety, as being able to leap over fences, hinting at previous aggressive behavior, "I think he's very dangerous, because he did attack another person before."

Another local, Ms. Jones, recounted the horrific scene to WSVN, "I heard sirens and I thought it was a wreck. When I looked, he was laying on the ground, arm was hanging like this," and added "The dog was full of blood, he was full of blood." The attack has also reignited discussions among residents regarding the apprehension of pit bull breeds, with Jones admitting, "Man, I don’t like pit bulls, period. I don't care for dogs that much." The incident has left the neighborhood rattled, with fears for safety and concerns over animal control at the forefront of community discourse. Updates on the victim’s condition have yet to be provided by authorities.
