A man was shot at an apartment complex in North Austin early Thursday morning, an incident that Austin Police Department officials say appears to be random. The shooting took place on Research Boulevard, south of Metric Boulevard, and the injured man was transported to a hospital where he is expected to recover. The victim's family has reportedly informed the police that the shooter was an unknown assailant, per KVUE. Although a description of the suspected shooter is available, the authorities have yet to make any arrests.
In a separate incident in Kyle, Texas, residents experienced a rude awakening when a DEA and SWAT operation unfolded in the early morning hours on Wednesday; "I heard the first bang. I thought it was nothing," recalled an anonymous witness, "Then I heard the second one, probably about a minute later," she told KXAN. According to reports, the SWAT team was there to assist the Drug Enforcement Administration with an arrest warrant, this event led to a temporary shelter-in-place order at the complex, with neighbors like Brianna Donaldson noting the unusual amount of SWAT personnel involved, "There was probably like 20 or 30 SWAT guys that I saw that came out in a bunch," she disclosed to KXAN.
The aftermath of the SWAT intervention in Kyle has left physical marks on the property, including boarded-up windows and a damaged patio rail. Southwest Insurance Center President Philip Doak advised that damages should be covered by the respective insurance policies of the renter and the apartment complex owner, "As far as the window, it would be covered by the owner of the complex on a master policy. The master policy covers outside windows, roof, brick," Doak stated, "The renter's insurance would cover that person's contents," he further outlined in a statement obtained by the residents who witnessed the events are likely to remember the disruption for some time.
