The Massachusetts State Lottery is gearing up to tempt residents with a shiny new $50 scratch ticket game dubbed "Lifetime Millions." Launching in February, the game promises a hefty grand prize of $1 million annually for life. Following on the heels of the state's first-ever $50 scratch game, "Billion Dollar Extravaganza," "Lifetime Millions" hopes to continue to ride the wave of its predecessor's success.

With three grand prizes that are set to potentially outlive the winners, the Massachusetts State Lottery isn't just playing to win—it's playing for keeps“Our first $50 ticket has been amazing; arguably the best-selling ticket of any U.S. lottery, especially in the first 16 weeks of release,” Mark William Bracken, Mass Lottery Director, told MassLive. “It’s loaded with winners, just like our last one, and we timed it to supplement as the other $50 ticket begins to wind down,” he added.

Aside from the chance at a lifetime of riches, "Lifetime Millions" also flaunts lower-tier prizes of $2 million and $1 million. Players scratching their hopes into these tickets will enjoy a minimum prize value of $100, a reported 82% prize payout, and 10 opportunities to win, courtesy of "Second Chance" drawings.

While the "Billion Dollar Extravaganza" ticket set high bars with about $850 million in sales and was lauded for offering the best odds of winning $10,000 on a $50 ticket, the Mass Lottery hopes to similarly entice players with "Lifetime Millions." "That prize is truly for life"—even after a winner lives past the 20 years of guaranteed prize winnings, they will continue to receive $1 million a year for the rest of their life, Bracken assured, according to a Boston 25 News interview.

Bracken has been cautious not to overpromise the future of the Lottery's foray into luxury scratch cards. He cannot guarantee the annual release of new $50 scratch tickets, but he emphasized that the lottery will vigilantly observe players' reception of "Lifetime Millions" upon its launch. The success of the initial $50 ticket is also being considered in this evaluation, as mentioned by MassLive.
