Mayor London N. Breed of San Francisco has named Daniel Adams as the fresh honcho of the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD). Adams, a seasoned veteran in the affordable housing battlefield, is set to take up the reins and champion the city's fight against homelessness. In his previous stint, Adams was pivotal in the city's move to snatch up hotels for conversion into permanent supportive housing, as per an announcement on the city's official website.

The top spot at MOHCD entails not only the spearheading of affordable housing policy but to also manage financing for the growth, restoration, and acquisition of affordable digs in San Fran. Moreover, it involves strengthening the foundations—social, physical, and economic—of the city's less affluent neighborhoods. "Dan brings significant experience in all aspects of affordable housing development," Breed was quoted in the city's official press release. Under his guidance, the city managed to secure fully eight properties, which translates to nearly 700 units of affordable living space, using over $150 million of funds from California’s Project Homekey.

Adams fills the spot left vacant by Eric Shaw, whom the mayor lauded for his leadership during the pandemic. Shaw had been at the helm since April 2020, with a focus on rental assistance and pushing forward new affordable housing projects. Adams' CV includes a period as the Acting Director of the MOHCD and before that, as its Deputy Director. His private-sector experience as a maven in the affordable housing market has been extensive.

"I want to thank Mayor Breed for this opportunity to return to MOHCD and continue to lead the department’s efforts on affordable housing and community development," Adams told the city's official news outlet. He is set to quickly carry forward a slew of new affordable housing units to curb the city's housing crisis. Adams also boasts credentials from UC Berkeley where he earned his Master’s Degree in Architecture, and he resides in the city’s Bayview neighborhood.
