A Miami man has been hauled into court on charges of attempted murder following a November shootout that left another man injured. The incident allegedly stemmed from a drug-related argument at a local eatery, Little Havana’s Los Brother’s L.A. Restaurant.
Broward Sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year-old Eltohm Matute, on a Dec. 13 warrant, accused of pulling the trigger during the early morning altercation. The shooting occurred roughly at 1 a.m. on Nov. 18, according to Local 10 News.
In court proceedings yesterday, Matute faced a total of six charges, five counts for shooting a deadly missile and one for premeditated attempted murder. The allegations are backed by statements from a driver who claimed he was unwittingly involved, confessing to detectives that Matute had misled him with talk of 'helping someone'—a claim that sharply contrasted with the subsequent gunfire.
The shots fired not only struck the 45-year-old victim but also endangered lives in a nearby apartment on Fifth Street where, the officer reported a shattered door glass where five individuals were at the mercy of their slumber, as per Local 10 News. Detectives utilized Shot Spotter technology, a gunfire detection system, which picked up the echo of 11 rounds in Miami’s Riverside area.
After the arrest in Broward County, Matute's transportation to Miami-Dade was without delay, and he is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Information on the case remains paramount, and detectives have urged anyone with insights to step forward and contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
Further reporting by WPLG Local 10 on Facebook has underlined the serious nature of the incident which briefly rocked the riverside community of Little Havana, placing the focus once again on the undercurrents of violence often linked to the drug activity in the area.
