Minneapolis is on the hunt for some fresh ideas to transform the former Kmart site into a bustling urban space. Consultants who know their way around real estate development and have a knack for public engagement, especially with diverse and BIPOC communities, are encouraged to throw their hats in the ring by February 2, 2024. The winning plan will pave the way for the New Nicollet Redevelopment Project, featuring a newly reconnected Nicollet Avenue stretching from Lake Street straight to the Midtown Greenway and beyond, all the way to Cecil Newman Lane, as per the City of Minneapolis.
The project isn't just about laying down some new asphalt; it's a chance to think big and build a high-density, mixed-use corner of the city that folks will want to walk through, live in, and set up shop. the main drag of Nicollet Avenue is set to get a complete makeover, bridging a gap that's been a sore spot for residents and city planners alike. This large-scale development is expected to dial up the quality of life for those in the surrounding neighborhoods, according to the City of Minneapolis.
