A Miramar man's attempt at playing cop turned sour when he called the real police on himself. Davonte Clyde Thompson, 29, was arrested after he reported a reckless driver, impersonating an officer in the process, according to Local10. Thompson told authorities he had conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday morning in the TD Bank parking lot at 7999 Pines Boulevard.
However, when Pembroke Pines police arrived, they quickly discovered that Thompson was far from the law enforcer he claimed to be, as WSVN reported. Using a stolen badge from a retired sheriff's deputy out of St. John Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana, Thompson had pulled over an unsuspecting motorist.
After the fraudulent façade was exposed, officers took Thompson into custody. He is now facing charges of False Personation of a Police Officer. Notably, the imposter wasn't driving a marked squad car but a silver Volkswagen Atlas with Florida plates.
Concerned there might be more victims out there, Pembroke Pines police are on the lookout for additional incidents involving Thompson. Driving a car with the tag number 73BULB, he may have conducted other illegal traffic stops. Police are urging anyone who might have been stopped by Thompson to get in touch at 954-431-2200, as Local10 added.
For those with any information related to this crime, there's a possible reward; Broward County Crime Stoppers can be contacted anonymously at 954-493-TIPS, and information leading to a resolution might fetch a reward of up to $5,000, according to details from WSVN.
