
The Naperville Police Department invites locals to delve into the realities of law enforcement through its Citizen Police Academy. Scheduled to commence on March 6, 2024, the course offers an up-close view of police work over a span of 10 weeks. According to a recent announcement, participants will immerse themselves in various facets of police operations, from patrol to forensics.
Interested residents have until Jan. 31 to apply for a spot in this interactive education series, which runs on Wednesdays until May 8. Exploring the complexities of police duties through lectures, interactions, and demonstrations, the CPA provides a window into the tactical, and practical aspects of maintaining public safety.
Police Chief Jason Arres highlighted the program’s value, stating, “CPA is an excellent opportunity for a behind-the-curtains peak at how the police department in Naperville does business.” He further described it as a means for community members to "see what the day-to-day looks like for our personnel and it introduces them to the many different ways we are working to protect and serve our community."
Held at the Naperville Police Department at 1350 Aurora Ave., the academy admits 24 individuals per session, ensuring an intimate and engaging experience. Applications demand a criminal background check and, are open to adults 18 and older who live or work in Naperville. The classes which promise a comprehensive look at local law enforcement techniques and training are offered free of charge.
Aspiring attendees are urged to fill out and return the required forms, accessible on the Naperville police website. Submissions can be made via email, fax, mail, or in person, ensuring multiple channels for community members to express their interest in learning more about the inner mechanics of police work in their city.
