Florida drivers are bracing for a hassle as traffic snarls become a staple in Palm Beach County. Major road projects courtesy of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) are poised to test commuters' patience on I-95 and beyond. Lane closures and detours will be the norm as the state ushers in improvements to ease future commutes.
According to BocaNewsNow.com, locals can expect up to four lanes closed on I-95 nightly starting this work week, and construction mayhem includes a full reconstruction of the Clint Moore Road Bridge. It's all part of a $148 million effort to extend Express Lanes and enhance the driving experience.
Adding to the mix are the improvements to Belvedere Road's connecting ramps to I-95, designed to simplify navigation and boost safety. With a projected summer 2024 finish line, the project throws in a $2.4 million price tag. FDOT also targets the southbound off-ramp to Belvedere Road, incorporating high-tech features like speed feedback and wrong-way driving systems, reported BocaNewsNow.com.
While tearing up the roads in Palm Beach, FDOT isn't overlooking Tampa Bay commuters. The Gateway Expressway, featuring toll roads for swift journeys between US 19 and I-275, is nearing completion. "We have finished pouring all of our bridges and are currently working on doing our lighting, doing our final pavement, doing the finishing touches on the bridges," Greg Deese, FDOT resident engineer, told ABC Action News.
