Sheriff's deputies in Paulding County are on the hunt for a woman accused of backing her car into the Missionary Baptist Church in Rockmart and fleeing the scene, with the incident being caught on camera and causing damage to the church. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the suspect, dressed in an orange shirt, collided with the church building at 12:43 a.m. on January 17, then promptly left only to return soon after with an accomplice donned in a black jacket.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured the mysterious duo, revealing the second woman who appears to be in a black jacket seemingly consoling the driver who initially hit the church it was around this time in the early morning when the incident took place, and damage was sustained both inside and outside of the structure. The authorities are urging anyone with information about the identities of the women involved to come forward and have provided a tip line at 770-443-3047 for such purposes.
The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is appealing for public assistance to identify the persons responsible for the property damage, as detailed by WYFF 4. With clear images obtained from the surveillance video, detectives are hopeful that someone will recognize the women and help bring them to justice for the unforeseen incident that has left the church community to grapple with repairs.
The ongoing investigation into this hit-and-run situation underscores the sometimes unexpected intersection between individuals' actions and community landmarks, such is the case of the Missionary Baptist Church, which now bears the brunt of a motorist's abrupt impact—a building meant for peace and gathering, now a crime scene in need of mending. The women at the center of this incident remain unidentified, and officials are piecing together the circumstances that led up to the car striking the church structure.
