A suspect is in critical condition following a police-involved shooting in Peoria, Arizona. The confrontation took place late Monday night near the intersection of 91st and Peoria Avenues, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
Police reported that the shooting ensued after an officer noticed, a man behaving suspiciously near a restaurant in the area. When approached by the officer, the man fled to a nearby gas station parking lot where he allegedly brandished a gun and aimed it at the officer, prompting the officer to fire his weapon. "The man ran from the officer, pulled out a gun, and pointed it at the officer. The officer then shot the man," detailed a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. No officers were injured during the incident.
The wounded individual was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries while the recovered firearm at the scene has been held as evidence. Per ABC15, officials have not confirmed whether the suspect discharged his weapon during the altercation.
Circumstances leading up to the shooting remain, under investigation by the Glendale Police Department, who are conducting the follow-up inquiry. "It's unclear at this time if any shots were fired by the man," ABC15 added in their report.
