San Diego County Invites Couples to "Leap Into Love" with Walk-In Weddings on February 29Source: Google Street View

San Diego County is spicing things up this Leap Year by allowing lovebirds to bypass the red tape and get hitched without an appointment on February 29. The county's Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk's office is opening its doors to walk-in weddings at four locations, with County Clerk Jordan Marks telling folks they can "leap into love and be married on this memorable day," as FOX 5 San Diego reports.

The day, which rolls around just once every four year, offers couples a unique anniversary date. A wry Marks noted that if people tie the knot on Leap Day, some might hope they only have to remember their anniversary every four years – but quick, spots are filling up fast. For those looking to secure their Leap Day nuptials, appointments are suggested and can be scheduled online or by calling the provided number. The county offices, from Chula Vista to Santee, will welcome couples from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the extra day Februray has to offer.

A marriage license will set couples back $129, and those who wish for the county staff to officiate in either English or Spanish will need to shell out an additional $107. NBC San Diego notes that opting for a Leap Year wedding isn't just for those looking to make their union extra special—it also might be a practical choice for the forgetful types.

"Being married on such a memorable date will make their wedding all the more special," Marks quipped, according to an NBC San Diego article. The leap into matrimony on this day may also pose the question for many: when is the appropriate time to celebrate their anniversary in non-Leap Years? Perhaps it's the charm or the convenience of that extra day that will draw couples to choose February 29 for their memorable moment, converging love and calendar oddities.
