San Francisco Bay Area residents should brace for a rapid weather shift today, as morning rain showers give way to breezy northerly winds this afternoon, the National Weather Service Bay Area reported early this morning. Commuters in the Monterey Peninsula were warned, via NWS Bay Area X post, not to be deceived by any temporary sunshine as another shower was expected to hit between 9:30 and 10:00 AM.

An updated synopsis and marine warnings from the National Weather Service, as outlined in an Area Forecast Discussion, described an unsettled pattern with cooler temperatures and periodic light rain chances persisting into next week. For today, gusts in the 20-30 mph range are forecasted along the coast and highs in the mid to upper 50s in low terrain, with 40s in the mountains. The service notes that showers will taper off in the afternoon, with clearing skies through the evening.
The NWS Bay Area also extended several Small Craft Advisories due to the current and incoming northwest wind conditions and sea state, cautioning that conditions will be hazardous to small craft through Thursday evening in certain areas. Mariners, particularly those less experienced or operating smaller vessels, are advised to avoid navigating in such risky conditions.
Residents can look forward to a brief respite as the detailed forecast predicts a gradual transition to sunny skies with a high near 58 degrees today. The winds are expected to decrease tonight as it becomes mostly clear, with a low around 46. A mix of alternating sunny and cloudy days with modest rain chances follows into the next week, providing a mundane contrast to the turbulent seas just off the coast.
