San Francisco's brunch enthusiasts have a reason to set their alarms early, as SFist reports, a beloved breakfast pop-up finds a permanent home. Early to Rise, helmed by chef Andrew McCormack, previously of Spruce and Quince, is set to open its doors on February 29 in the space once occupied by Automat at 1801 McAllister Street. McCormack, known for dishing out a 'bacchanalian, gloves-off family-style brunch,' will continue the tradition with a touch of counter-service convenience cultivated during pandemic times.

According to Eater, the new spot will bring back fan favorites and introduce a hefty 900-pound smoker dedicated to perfecting bacon and other meats. In a journey from quaint Nob Hill gatherings to full-scale operations, Early to Rise promises to deliver the homemade charm that earned it its initial following. Patrons can look forward to scratch-made bagels, English muffins, and baked delights, all underscored by McCormack's passion for crafting every condiment and dough in-house.

A fresh remodel adds a new dining counter to the NoPa neighborhood venue, where the ordering counter once stood. In a statement obtained by SFist, McCormack expresses his zest for re-imagining the brunch experience while keeping true to his roots. "Depending on when you might've joined us, you either saw ETR as an elaborate, bacchanalian, gloves-off family-style brunch party (pre-pandemic) or a counter-service destination for handmade bagels, donuts and rotating specials during the pandemic," he shares on Early to Rise's official website.

Drinks aren't taking a backseat either, with local beers, wine, and cocktail offerings such as Bloody Marys and Greyhounds promised to complement the brunch spread. After the late February launch, the establishment will initially offer dine-in service exclusively, with plans to expand into picnic-style to-go boxes. These boxes aim to pair perfectly with nearby scenic spots such as the Panhandle and Alamo Square Park for on-the-go gastronomes.
