San Mateo County's coastline is about to get a major facelift with the ongoing construction of Tunitas Creek Beach, set to become the newest addition to the county's park portfolio. The 58-acre beachfront property is in the midst of a transformation that will introduce many visitor services and facilities.

The notorious pink house, a local landmark, has been bulldozed to make way for seating, an overlook with a scenic view of the beach and southern bluffs, picnic areas, and interpretive signs. Public restrooms and staff facilities are also on tap. According to San Mateo County officials, the crews plan to start swinging into full gear as soon as the spring hits.

It's not just about new amenities, either. The construction team has tackled a landslide that previously took out a third of the beach access trail. Now, they're reforming the path with a much more stable slope, ensuring a safer route for beachgoers. Whether playing ball, this aspect of the project could be wrapped up in the coming months.

Moreover, the officials say further grading across Tunitas Creek Beach is slated for this spring. Parking areas, additional overlooks, and pedestrian pathways will begin to take shape, with the south loop trail becoming accessible right after the park opens – all dependent on a dry spell following the rainy season.
