
A San Rafael neighborhood reeled from a grim spectacle when a local woman was arrested for the murder of her mother after a violent encounter left the older woman fatally stabbed, authorities said.
The bloody ordeal unfolded on Monday afternoon in a Terra Linda apartment complex, where officers from the San Rafael Police Department (SRPD) and paramedics responded to a 911 call reporting a fight and potential stabbing. On the scene, they discovered a 55-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. Despite swift medical attention and transport to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries, according to a statement from the SRPD.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Tonantzyn Oris Beltran, remained near the crime scene, seemingly in a state of shock with bloodstained clothing and holding a knife. Officers faced a brief standoff before teams managed to take Beltran into custody from inside the apartment. The Marin County Coroner's Office is partnering with SRPD to conduct a homicide investigation and will release the deceased's name at an appropriate time.
Currently, detectives are working diligently to piece together the circumstances that precipitated this tragedy, aiming to understand the motive behind Beltran's alleged violent act, police noted. In the wake of the incident, SRPD extended its sympathies to the family of the victim, acknowledging the profound impact of the loss on the community.
