Chicagoland businesses are on high alert as an armed robber continues to terrorize the Deering district, having struck multiple times in January. The Chicago Police report details a string of robberies believed to be connected, with businesses and pedestrians being targeted by an individual wielding a two-color handgun.

The authorities have pieced together a pattern from these incidents, tracing the footsteps of a lone perpetrator described as an African American male, in his 20s or early 30s, between 5'8" and 6' feet tall, and dressed in a distinctive getup — black skull cap, what's described as black Harry Potter style glasses, and black pants. Since the onset of these criminal acts on January 12, two robberies occurred mere minutes apart on the 4700 Block of South Loomis Boulevard and the 4800 Block of South Throop Street.

Following the initial spree, the robberies continued with three more on January 18, across various locations including the 1400 Block of West 48th Street and the 4800 and 4900 Block of South Loomis Boulevard. The criminal activity resumed recently on January 27, with two rapid-fire incidents on the 4300 and 4500 Blocks of South Ashland Avenue. Victims were relieved of personal belongings and cash, after which the robber fled on foot. The targeted times appear to coincide with evening hours, when visibility is low and businesses might be preparing to close, making them more vulnerable to such attacks.

In response to the threat, police are urging locals to stay vigilant and immediately dial 9-1-1 if they witness suspicious activity. "Always be aware of your surroundings," has become more than just everyday advice in these trying times. If encountering the assailant, the community is advised to remain calm and take note of any distinguishing features which could aid in identification and capture. The authorities also recommend preserving video surveillance footage and attaining contact information from any potential witnesses at the scene.

The Chicago Police are actively seeking the public's assistance to halt this spate of armed robberies.
