A South Florida woman has been charged with vehicular homicide after a fatal crash in Lauderhill, where she was allegedly driving at a speed nearly double the limit with her children unrestrained in the car. Janeyshia Monique Hilton, 22, from North Lauderdale, was arrested on Tuesday following the May 14 incident that resulted in the death of an SUV passenger, according to Local 10 News.
Hilton is facing multiple charges, including two counts of child neglect after her children were found in the front seat without restraints. With Hilton at the helm, her 2019 Ford Mustang barrelled into a 1998 GMC Jimmy, as reported by a vehicle data recorder indicating she was going 76 mph in a 40 mph zone. The crash occurred near the intersection of West Broward Boulevard and Northwest 36th Avenue, with her car striking the SUV as it was exiting a shopping center, as NBC Miami stated.
Hilton, her children, and the SUV driver all sustained injuries from the collision and were taken to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment. The passenger in the SUV, who remained unidentified in the report, was killed when the Mustang T-boned the vehicle, flipping it over.
Despite this incident, Hilton has been cited for speeding on two subsequent occasions. Once caught driving 57 mph in a 35 mph zone, and another time going 58 mph in a 40 mph zone, Hilton seems to have a penchant for disregarding speed limits, as court records suggest. She pleaded no contest in the first case, with the latter still pending. Following her arrest, Hilton is now being held at the Broward Main Jail, as per Local 10 News reports.
