St. Louis Park residents looking to upgrade their appliances might just score a deal — if they choose energy and water-efficient ones, that is. The city has rolled out a rebate program aimed at promoting the purchase of eco-friendly domestic hardware like Energy Star-rated washing machines and WaterSense-labeled toilets. In a bid to encourage sustainable living and cut down on utility bills, these rebates could save shoppers up to $300 on qualifying appliances.

The program, a collaboration between the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services and the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, was designed not just to save money but also to conserve resources in the long term. Consumers who purchase eco-friendly appliances can now effectively reduce to receive a credit on their city utility bill, with rebates up to $200 for a WaterSense toilet, up to $250 for a WaterSense irrigation controller and/or spray sprinkler body, and a whopping $300 for those high-efficiency washing machines and dishwashers. reported yesterday by the city of St. Louis Park.

Eligibility is limited. To qualify, an applicant must be a St. Louis Park resident billed for water by the city. Rebates only apply to purchases made after December 1, 2023, and they're not available for new constructions. Plus, if you want that sweet rebate, you'll need the box photo that shows the WaterSense or Energy Star logo, along with a copy of the purchase receipt. An itemized receipt, that is, if a contractor or plumber installs your new devices. Don't forget to include your first and last name and your address on the rebate request.

Rebate-seekers should act quickly, as the funds are finite. The city has a total of $12,500 earmarked for the program, which is issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Although residents are responsible for installation and permit costs, replacing multiple appliances can result in multiple rebates. All applications must be submitted by June 30, 2024, to get a piece of the funds pie. For more details or to apply for a rebate, residents can contact Mike Okey, operations superintendent, at 952.924.2181 or [email protected].
